Medical Volunteer

Volunteering with Cedar Tanzania at KHC gives you a chance to not only advance your professional career but also to further your personal development. You will experience conditions that you would be unlikely to experience in your home environment as well as gain a solid understanding of the issues and challenges affecting health care in a developing country. You can also make a difference in supporting the local medical staff to deliver high quality health services to the patients and build the capacity of local staff.

Throughout your stay you will be helped and guided by the Cedar Tanzania team and you will have two main points of contact; one to coordinate your volunteer stay and help you with arrangements and administration prior to your stay as well as introducing you to KHC. The second will be your supervisor at KHC. They will mentor you, discuss cases and answer your medical questions.

Who can be a Medical Volunteer?

We have a continuous need for volunteers with following background:

Medical and public health students or professionals (students should be in their last year of studies)

Nurses

Midwives

We are also open to students/professionals who want to conduct their own research and can link them to teaching hospitals in the region known for their support of research programs.

How long can I volunteer for?

The minimum stay is 3 months due to complicated procedures obtaining a visa/permits for medical personnel and also the ‘on-boarding’ process takes some time. However, we encourage you to volunteer for a longer period of time in order to get the best experience possible.

How can I apply as a Medical Volunteer?

The first step is to send your application via email. It should contain a CV and letter of application in which you state why you want to volunteer at KHC and how you can contribute to the delivery of high-quality health care. Please also indicate when you would like to start your volunteer placement and for how long. Please include references and academic records.

If your application is accepted and you seem suitable for a position with us, we will invite you to have an informal chat via Skype. If this is successful and satisfactory for both sides, you will be invited to become a volunteer at KHC.

Are there any costs involved volunteering in Tanzania?

We don’t charge any costs for the administration of the volunteer placement and support in Tanzania. Cedar Tanzania will provide free housing on the premises at the KHC (for medical volunteers only; volunteers at the offices in Mwanza, Tanzania, will be supported in finding accommodation in Mwanza), pay for visas and licenses and any work-related expenses. In addition, a daily allowance will be paid to every volunteer to cover lunch costs.

Costs for flights, insurance, vaccinations, money for subsistence, non-work-related travelling or other leisure activities are not typically covered by Cedar Tanzania.

Virtual Volunteer

Are you a graphic designer? Do you write gripping articles or blog posts, or do you know how to maintain web pages? These are just a few of the many opportunities to volunteer from home. Some administrative work can also be done remotely like policy reviews or report writing.

Virtual volunteering at Cedar Tanzania is a convenient way to help a great cause but without having to commit a lot of time.
